After spending a couple days at Big South Fork I headed south to Dayton Tennessee for a dayhike to nearby Laurel Falls on Tuesday Nov 6. Monday night produced a rain so heavy that it woke me up at the cheap hotel. There would be no shortage of water in Richland and Laurel creeks the next day.
The first part of the hike is fairly level upstream with nearly continuous views of Richland Creek:
Then the trail leaves Richland Creek and heads uphill to meet Laurel Creek and when it does, cascades abound before reaching the main attraction:
A short spur leads to Laurel Falls. The main drop is in the background, with a thundering cascade in the foreground:
To get closer to the actual base of the falls required a scramble over a sloping field of wet rocks, which I navigated carefully to get this last pic:
