Hey guys, I'm looking for advice for a 3 day Appalachian trail section hike originating in GA or NC. I'm looking to do about 10-16 miles a day and would consider a shuttle hike, parking at end point and being shuttled to the start point. I've never done a shuttle hike and I'm not sure where to start logistically to get that setup. I wasn't sure if there are services to contact to arrange transport. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Nantahala hiking club still lists Darlene as a shuttle service, although i havent talked to anyone who used her in many years. Darlene Swofford – 828-524-3265, cell – 706-201-7719, email: dswofford@gmail.com
she is/was out of Franklin, iirc.
Maybe shoot her an email and ask about suggestions between Winding Stair Gap & Fontana Lake. My suggestion would be Winding Stair Gap to Stecoah Gap. You'd pass over Wayah, Wesser, and Cheoah balds.

Thanks FamilySherpa. Sent out an email but no reply. I think I might try the Standing Indian Basin loop.

Perhaps a little late to the party here but just saw this thread... Standing Indian area is nice. To start from the campground and get out to the AT and then around and back is only about 25 miles so more like a 2-day trip for me (including driving there and back from ATL), but plenty of ways to stretch it. Views from Albert Mtn fire tower and Standing Indian summit are nice. If you do this I recommend clockwise, because the approach to Albert from the south is very steep and rocky. As an aside, this also is where I ended up in an ambulance being rushed to the Franklin NC hospital ER when a previously-unknown kidney stone the size of an almond asserted itself. In Georgia there are many nice stretches of the AT. Some you can use the Benton MacKaye or Bartram trails, or other local trails, to make loops. On just the AT, from Woody Gap to Unicoi Gap is a little over 30 miles, that could be a nice 3-day and has a half-dozen summit views including Blood Mtn and also includes the gear store at Neels Gap (the AT actually passes through it). Or, the stretch from Unicoi up to Dick's Creek and back takes in Tray Mtn, but this stretch in particular has a lot of steep slogs. Generally, the AT in Georgia lives up to the "green tunnel" nickname, with no views except for the scattered summits and some outcrops on the way up to the summits. As for transportation for a one-way, there are several private services (usually just one guy with a van or big SUV). Best resource I know of is on White-Blaze.net, they have a dedicated sub-forum for this topic.

Sounds like there a lot more option than I first anticipated. Thanks guys!!! I hope all is well after Florence, from what I see it's still raining in NC.
