I would think that most people when it comes down to the final decision will choose the car/auto/whatever that appeals to their sense of beauty. Well, sure, if all else is equal. But I think we have established that around here there are plenty of us who put looks at the bottom of the list when choosing gear. Cars and knives--all gear to me. Though I will say that how a knife feels in my hand is part of what might influence me, mostly I want to know if it has a blade and how much it weighs.

still working on the book problem I have a hard time letting go of a good book, even if I'll probably never read it again. The best way is giving the book to a friend who will appreciate it. Never had a "thing" for knives, even though I like to watch the Forged in Fire TV show. Bought a Benchmade Mini Gryptillian several years ago, and very rarely touch it (stays in my glove compartment, handy if needed). For hiking/backpacking I carry the Gerber Dime mini multitool, which lives on my keychain.

She once shared that for any purchase she had to weigh it against what item she’d have to discard to make room aboard for the new item. This makes perfect sense to me. When I purchase an item of clothing, an item that is already in the closet will go to Goodwill. When a new shoe is purchased, one of the old ones is thrown away. If the old item was good enough to keep, it wouldn't be necessary to buy a replacement. Exceptions are made for kitchen tools, shop tools, and, of course, KNIVES.

I have a hard time letting go of a good book, even if I'll probably never read it again. The best way is giving the book to a friend who will appreciate it. Yes. Donating to charity is next best, and the only real option for the kind of downsizing we did last summer. I know many of those books will end up as mulch, but I don't have to see it happen When I purchase an item of clothing, an item that is already in the closet will go to Goodwill. I have also struggled with this. My closets have never been stuffed, and I have tended to hang onto things I won't wear again, because "hey, I really ought to own at least one dress!" Again, moving helped with this, but probably not enough. Really I should have gotten rid of almost everything in the closet and start to build a wardrobe again that really works for me. But that would be scary, since I really hate to shop for clothes and mostly avoid it like a dog dodging a bath. Exceptions are made for kitchen tools, shop tools, Yeah, I'm with you on those two, anyway. I don't go in much for kitchen appliances, because they are too hard to store (I struggled, but passed up the big mixer from my mom because it would have had to sit on the counter all the time, and counter space is too precious for that), but I am always on the search for the perfect this or that. And shop tools... ouch. I had no idea how many of those I had until I had to pack and move. And I never even bought the table saw I wanted!

There can never be too many tools.
