Almost a year later (time went by fast!), I am going to attempt the loop over Snow Pass to Deluge Lake as suggested by cweston. I am hoping to do it the week after the 4th of July holiday, my main concern is how much snow will still be found find at elevation. Although I'm not too worried about it, as I can always turn around if I am uncomfortable with the footing. The pics of the area that I posted in this thread were July 14-16, 2014. I don't really recall if that was a typical snow year--you could research it. The only snow we encountered was the Snow Lake basin and the slopes above it (leading to the Snow/Deluge pass). We carried axes and were happy to have them for that slope, but there were lots of people coming the other way, obviously intending to descend that slope, without them. My guess is that you're pretty-much always going to encounter *some* snow on that slope. I look forward to hearing about your trip.

Sorry to report that plans changed and I didn't get to the Gores. My wife, who is not a hiker, went with me so we spent a lot of time checking out the sites via the car. But I was able to squeeze in an overnight on the west side of Indian Peaks near Grandby. Went in from the Monarch Lake trailhead intending to camp at Pawnee Lake, but I didn't like the post-holing near the lake, so I camped about a half mile short of it. In the morning I hiked over to Mirror and Crater Lakes then back to the trailhead. The trail still has a lot of snow on it, but it is melting fast. Maybe next year for the Deluge loop
