the hip belt pockets are a pain and have to be opened with two hands and JR suggested. Not with the DIY mod I mentioned, that made a big diff for me. Detailed instructions for it are on another backpacking forum, I could find the link if y'all want but didn't want to post it here since it's to a "competing" forum. The arc to allow a breeze across my back is a must, love that design. Some will read about the arc and dismiss this pack saying that the center of gravity has to be moved too much away from your body. But I say nay nay. The pack is a relatively narrower and taller design, so the total depth from the front of the pack to your back is no greater than, and in some cases less than, with other packs that ride against your back and trap the sweat.

Today's hike was wonderful. I kept the adjustments I ha made to the pack. I loaded up with 28.6 pounds of gear and went to Tablerock,. I averaged 1.8 miles per hour for the entire trip, including stops.
I really like the pull straps and how they are ridged so that they 'stick.'
When I tightened the hip belt, I first pulled all 4 straps till snug, then pulled the top straps tight. I left the bottom straps in the snug position.
WONDERFUL!
