Lady Vols softball team looks pretty good this year.....
Headed to Big South Fork over memorial day....weather forecast isn't looking so good....

I'm transitioning out of hiking season and into yard work season. I have a whole bunch of stuff to do around my house as well as my mother's house.
I hit the usual places this season: couple of nights at Savage Gulf, Frozen Head, and the Cheaha State Park area a couple of times for single nighters. I'd hoped to make trips to Florida, Cumberland Island and Virgin Falls, but those didn't pan out. I had some back luck with weather and getting sick at the wrong times this year.
It's muggy and buggy now, and I don't feel like making the drive to higher elevations, so I'm throwing in the towel and doing all the stuff I didn't get done during hiking season. And also trying to make myself get a little more rest.
I took a peek at the forecast for Birmingham, and it looks like a wet weekend. If it's like that at BSF, I guess you'll find out how well your gear is waterproofed, @gunslinger .
I need to put BSF back on the list for fall or spring---I haven't been there in several years.

I am long overdue for a trip to Arkansas. Will be going down around Buffalo River for some camping, hiking and mountain biking in the next couple weeks.

I realize a weather "person" has a tough job, but all week long last week rain was in the forecast for saturday and sunday....lots of people changed their plans due to the forecast....as the forecast was calling for 1 to 2 inches.... Not a drop on Saturday, not one. Probably better to use a weather rock or some similar device.

I've got a weather rock in my backyard. It hasn't let me down yet for the second by second weather.
I'm heading to the Northwest in a couple weeks, but once back I'll probably do some day hikes here and there throughout the Summer, because once July hits, the kids' activities get crazy.

Ugh. I have been so busy lately, I barely even have time for a quick run or bike ride. Headed to the beach in 2 weeks and as soon as we get back from there I am determined to get back in the woods on the weekends. Far too much time either swinging hammers or standing on a soccer field.

I'm behind for the year, compared to previous years.....Don't care to much for being out in the rain much these days.....and it seems it's clear all week long and then rains on the weekends...

I really wanted to get away to Kentucky or Tennessee for a nice early spring 3 day weekend, but between big projects at work and honey-do projects at home and some nasty weather, I just have not been able to do it.
I generally avoid hiking in the South in the summer, and now softball season has ramped up. My Senior team has 8 tournaments on the schedule, which eats up a lot of weekends.

We car camped in November for veteran's day weekend, 2 nights with day hikes and a lot of hanging out in the hammocks. We had a hot Jan/Feb here in FL but managed some day hiking in Little Big Econ, our local spot. In the summers, we usually do a trip to the mountains of N GA, NC when we take a kid to sleep away camp. This year we opted to see Charleston, SC so we're not really getting any mountain time. I'm pretty sad. I'm hoping maybe we'll take a fall jaunt up when the leaves are nice. We did make another campsite reservation for this coming November, at Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park. It is the only "dark sky" left in that part of FL. Should be great for stargazing if the weather is right. Will have to listen to football on the radio!
