After spending many years on the trail, I have heard people complaining about their foot. Stating reasons why they can't hike again as a result of their foot problems. And I deeply understand that it is very disturbing for an avid hiker to want to quit hiking.
So, I decide to find a solution if any.
This is the experience of a friend.
"I have been experiencing for pain for some time. The pain has always been located in the front areas; ahead of the ball of my foot and in the toes. Usually, the toe discomfort has been in the second through fourth toes from the base of the toe to the end, but occasionally the large toe joins the action. It’s a sharp, burning pain. The forefoot pain is always between the balls of my foot and the bottom of the toes. The pain is almost always there after a steep and rough descent. Consequently, it’s generally at the end of the hike; the final few miles are extremely tough".
*Ways to prevent/effectively manage this foot pain*
You would agree with me that before there can be a solution for anything, it is vital to first of all identify the problem.
Therefore, before searching for a solution to any footpain, you must identify what's causing it. Here's a list;
*Obesity or being overweight
*Old age
*Excessive walking/hiking and/or any other rigorous sport activity
*Foot deformity
*Injury
*Standing on your feet for a long period of time
*Sprains, fractures, Plantar fasciitis.etc
For that my friend, we were able to know that the reason for his foot pain, was due to excessive walking/hiking.
Now, we have identified the problem, the next thing is to find a solution.
Assuming you have also identified the cause of your knee pain to be because of excessive walking, simply follow these steps too.
1. Lightweight Backpacking Gear
Maybe, this should have to be the first point. According to prevention, your foot contains 26 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments, 19 muscles, and many tendons that hold your feet together. And also that, the average person takes between 8000 to 10000 steps a day
The takeaway point is that, to prevent or manage your foot pain, then you must consider carrying a lightweight backpacking gear.
2. Wear Light Shoes
The shoes you wear, should be specially designed for hiking.
The shoes you wear should be comfortable, lightweight, properly fitting, with cushion and arch support. This will help you a lot.
3. Try Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy is the use of water to conceive a cure to an ailment.
In our case, foot pain.
Basically, the moment you dip your feet into a cold or hot water, your nerves gets a sensation that stimulates your immune system. Your immune system then improves blood circulation and what not.
If the foot pain is as a result of low or no blood circulation, then, you would have no problem whatsoever concerning your foot again.
This is it.
Any contribution will be highly welcomed.
