He's part Maine Coon, which explains his mellow and cuddly demeanor. Great cat. No papers whatsoever but I'm pretty sure mine was Maine Coon or a large portion of him was. Very mellow and would come when I'd call him.

MCs are my favorite breed. Noted for their sociable behavior and hunting skills, which certainly describes Milo, though he's not as big as a typical coon (he's about 12 lbs). We live in a very urban area in Chicago which has a big rat problem, and Milo has done his share in keeping the rodents away. One summer, I counted 6 corpses, which means he probably got twice that.
He also follows Little Hungry and I if we take his bike or scooter round the block. I believe it is a protective / guarding response, though he only does it with the little guy. Smart cat.

LOL. That's Milo. Pretty cool customer as you can probably tell. Got him from Anti-Cruelty. He climbed up on my shoulder that day and we were sold. He's part Maine Coon, which explains his mellow and cuddly demeanor. Great cat. I own a descendant as well. Not fully Maine Coon, but he has 5 toes, very mellow, jumps up when I tap on my chest and cuddly as can be. We call him Gizmo, or Gizzy for short

You guys are gonna make me dig up a picture of my old friend. I went and did this loop again this last weekend. Didn't get as many pictures as I wanted as they changed the forecast at the last minute so I hiked it a little faster than I wanted and I forgot the mount to my camera that I wanted for my mini tripod. I've come to the conclusion though that this loop is just way too popular any more. 2 or 3 years ago this early in the season I would have had practically the whole loop to myself. This time however, i saw without much exaggeration a group of people probably every 20 minutes. There use to be only 7 official campsites and now there are close to 18 or 20 and all of them are taken if you don't stop hiking by early afternoon. I'm gonna be looking for something new for my fall color hike this year. Anyway... nothing special but here are this spring's pictures. NCT/MRT Loop - Spring 2016

Great pics Coolkat! Sorry to hear that one of my favorite weekend loops has gotten too popular.
It was cool to see the pics of your first camp site, which is about a mile past Red Hill on a promontory with a narrow but level tent site. My last trip I ambled down that steep bluff to get some water out of a sink among some cedars where you gain the valley floor.

My last trip I ambled down that steep bluff to get some water out of a sink among some cedars where you gain the valley floor. I know that i'm dry camping on the west side so I've always made sure I had enough water. I'm not sure that I'd be as ambitious as you get some water or to find out there wasn't any.

Yeah, I usually bring a gallon for that first night at Red Hill to see me to Eddington Creek. Not sure what caused us to need to go find more--maybe coffee at breakfast.

Wow. Looks a lot like my Milo. Beautiful creature! Not really on topic but as long as we are comparing Maine Coons here is mine after he got sick so he wasn't cleaning himself like he should. At his prime he was almost 17lbs. Not sure why the picture is so big. I can't figure out how to make it smaller as I don't often post pics from photobucket.
