I bottom painted my sailboat today. Covered head to foot in Tyvek coveralls, a respirator, and Nitrile gloves. Fortunately the temperature was cool so I didn't have to deal with overheating. Had to scrape off the loose paint first then roll and brush on a new coat of anti-fouling paint. Dusty, dirty, paint drips, splatter, on my knees half the time working the scraper/roller/brush at an awkward angle. Found myself thinking -- "I'm sure glad I don't do this for a living!" Hmm... I owned a 30' ocean cruising sailboat 35 years ago. Parked it in the backyard over the winter the first few years to do cabin repairs/upgrades and such and remember bottom painting it. I know we didn't bother with Tyvek coveralls or respirators... not even sure we used gloves. Probably dumb in retrospect. :\ Haven't had many dirty jobs but I was a chef for 10 years. The grease and food smells get into everything. I used to wear kitchen clogs designed for surgeons that could be sterilized, and would put them through the commercial dishwasher. Still ended up having to replace them once a year. Had a separate laundry hamper for my clothes as well.
