Here is one Backpacker 2017 Editor's Choice awards that is getting a lot of buzz in the ultralight/thru hiker communities. I can definitely see the appeal. I could be lured into using something like that, in conjunction with a bag that can sit and treat water for a longer period with the slow chemicals. Of course, this only works in places where you can count on getting water frequently.

Of course, this only works in places where you can count on getting water frequently. A lot of people are using it in conjunction with HydraPac 2L and 3L bags. They have the same 42mm screw cap size. Like everything else, backpackers modify, mix-n-match, and generally personalize their gear. I am really thinking of getting one because I am not happy with my Sawyer Mini. The smaller diameter opening in the bags makes it difficult to fill them. Anyway, there is a huge buzz about this now and it seems like it will become a major player in ultralight water filtration, something Sawyer had all to it's own for a while. Rumi
