I am always amazed at the alacrity of folks like those State of Jefferson jokers to raise a bunch of money for something they KNOW never has a chance of becoming reality, like the federal lands transfer schmucks in Utah and elsewhere. What an f'n scam.

It seems like the CA state line has wandered quite a bit. In exploring around the Bodie Hills, I came across the remains of the town of Aurora, which apparently was at times in Nevada, at times in California. I recall one Memorial Day sitting out a storm in the bar of the Bridgeport Hotel, listening to the locals talk about what was going on "over in California" . Last I checked, Bridgeport is in California. I haven't been to Mineral King. Our son wants to finish off the JMT, so our priority has been doing segments there. But with the snow this year, we'll be looking for other, lower trips that will be, by definition, not on the JMT. Maybe something around Mineral King? I haven't been there, but if it's a candidate for Marmocy, then I'm in.

When you leave your car at the TH, you have to wrap it in tarps so they don't climb underneath and eat the soft bits (like brake lines...). I'm not sure what the road conditions/opening is like.

not Jefferson, Nautaqua. different movement.
You have the same thing with the Conch Republic in Florida, The state of Empire in NY, UP in Michigan. There are others. It is more a form of protest rather a serious movement.

Eastern Cali is another region in itself and, yes, I can see Nevada from my house...
