I haven't used the Z Lite, but with an r-value of 2.6, I wonder if it will provide you with enough insulation. Perhaps those with experience with this pad will chime in. I love my Neoair X-lite, but they're expensive. I used to live in Conroe, and spent a lot of time (and money) at the Houston REIs. Try out the mummies in-store, you may find they're not that bad.

Arrived last night around 6:30PM. No work until next Monday. I'm so excited. Thank you again. I had no idea about R-Value rating. There is a DICKS'S sporting goods down the road. I've been looking for a pad with a higher rating. I've found two in my price range. Would you shop there or just go to REI? I love Conroe. The lake has some killer fishing. Been out there numerous times. Again, I apologize for being a newbie. I'm just trying to get the most out of my time here in Colorado. I'll be here a whole month with more free time than I expected to have. Anyway, I'm going to get a pair of trekking poles today and find some day trails to walk until I figure out the camping. If there is anyone in Colorado that wants to show an old man some new tricks, I'll be here for the month. I'm not a speed hiker. I move slow, but at a decent pace. You all have a great day!!!!! Happy hiking/camping!!!!! Thank you all!

You're on the Front Range, you're not in Colorado.
In all seriousness I hope you have a wonderful time in our Centennial State. I loved the years I spoent there.
Hope you have great trails picked out.
Have a blast.

Would you shop there or just go to REI? I would definitely go to REI. You will likely find far more knowledgeable salespeople there, as well as a one year total satisfaction guarantee on everything you buy. I've been to the Dick's in Austin on occasion, their camping gear is generally pretty low-quality.

Would you shop there or just go to REI? You must go to the REI Flagship store downtown. You will feel like a kid in a candy shop.

Good morning everyone! I’m almost ready. I have almost completed my list. This is what I’ve got so far.
Gregory 65 Baltoro Three Liter Reservoir Jetboil Mini Sawyer Fire Starter Compass & Map of the Lost Creek Wilderness Knife, Pocket Knife & Sharpener 100’ Paracord Homemade First-Aid Kit Trekking Poles Headlamp & Mini Flashlight
Still Needed:
Tent, Sleeping Bag & Pad Dry Sack
I’ve been able to get my meals down to two pounds a day. Between 2,700 - 3,000 calories.
The Flagship REI…. It’s a dangerous place to go. I was in there for well over an hour. The ORIC people are awesome! I learned a few tips and tricks about compass, map reading. Thank you Deborah!!!
My work hours, days have changed again. I will have even more free time. I will have May 15 - May 19 to do what I want. I’m so excited. I wish I could sleep till then.
It’s a beautiful day here in Broomfield, CO. I’ll be on my way to work in a few minutes unfortunately. Hopefully tomorrow will be the same!
Thank you all again! I really appreciate you people taking the time to help a stranger. I hope all is well with everyone. Take care. Have a great day!
PS. Saddle Rock Mountain trail needs to be re-named to the, Mother F*****. lol….

Best time of my life! I mean that! I had the best time of my life just wondering through the woods. I hate being home. It's only been a little over 24 hours.
Lost Creek Wilderness was amazing. I learned a lot in three days. I carried to much crap.
Made it back to the hotel knowing it was my last night in Colorado. Checked out and went up to Nebraska. (spontaneous decision in the early morning) I spent two perfect days and nights at the Fort Robinson State Park. Nice park. Kind-of touristy. Still though, nice place to pitch a tent. Hiked in the nearby Buttes. I think that's what they called them. They were mountains to me. Tick warning!
I'm now back in Texas. I'm not even going to unpack. I'm heading right back out in mid July. Not exactly sure where I'm going, but I'm thinking about just going from state park to state park heading west and then up north. I have time to figure that out. But I'm done working. lol.... Going to get myself in order and take off.
I took a few pictures with my phone. Nothing special. Sunrises and sunsets. When I put them on my laptop, I'll upload them. The Lost Creek Wilderness was my favorite part of this trip. I did do some tourist stuff. Went to Pikes Peak. That was really awesome. Really cold. Face stinging cold. But awesome!
Hiked a lot of day trails. Beaver Brook in Colorado was by far my favorite. I had the whole trail to myself. Didn't see one person around the whole loop. I also got there at 5:00AM.
So much to write. I had a blast. Enjoyed the hiking and camping. No regrets! (except for a few gear purchases) I'll be back later when I settle in.
Thanks again for the advice and tips and everything else.

We all have gear purchases we wish we could have back. It is part of the hobby. Gear upgrades will take over your bank account, if you let them. There are meetings for gear addicts / gearaholics.
