You want to live forever? I don't' think so. I want to live as long as I choose to live. Quality of my health and mind would be a big factor in that decision.

I've recently been coming to grips with the fact I'll likely never do another 2 week Bp'g trip to the Wind's, maybe not even a 1 week trip, (unless it's 2 short days into base camp, and I have several of those options still in mind).
Age has been catching up with me in an exponential way the past 3-4 yrs. That's why I'm now concentrating more on dayhiking/car basecamping in specially chosen sites to maximize my experience, ie the Colorado Plateau in Utah.
I can almost reluctantly trade my beloved Winds, for the Red Rocks of Utah, based out of the back of my truck, parked in some "nowhere" BLM land with unlimited 4-6mi dayhikes in any direction.
I'm just sad I didn't find it sooner !!

The CO Plateau is magic land. I hope for many more years of exploring both it and the high mountains, but when it comes to that, your plan sounds pretty good.

That's what I've been doing, not due to age as much as that it's a great way to see a lot of stuff. My April trip mas supposed to be another through hike of Grand Gulch. However, my partner had to drop out and paying the shuttle for just me seemed silly, especially because the areas in which I was most interested were concentrated in a smaller area. Instead I picked a more convenient access point and basecamped in between my main targets. It was really nice to skip making and breaking camp every day. I've taken a similar approach on my last five or six trips to the area. Even so, I'm not ready to give up on week-long trips yet. I just prefer to do them in the summer, when I have all day to get where I'm going instead of racing the sun all day.

I'll likely never do another 2 week Bp'g trip I'm planning more long trips because backpacking is the way I make the world kiss my ass, which has become important to me lately whenever I realize all the ass-kissing I've had to do. That's why I want to hike the PCT - so the world can kiss my ass for 5 months.

dayhiking/car basecamping in specially chosen sites Remote car camping could achieve the same effect.
