Lots of historical perspective in this song. It is NOT intended to be political.

Lots of historical perspective in this song. Loosely based on the experience of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. Rumi

Loosely based on the experience of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. I did not know that. Thanks Rumi!

Steve Howe, most noted as the guitarist for Yes and other bands. Per the apparently official notes, he originally started writing The Clap as a dedication to country start Chet Atkins, but when his son, Dylan, was born, that changed. Steve is about 25 years old in this clip, and is about 72 now. I've seen him a few times over the years since the mid-70s, and he never ceases to amaze. One of my sisters saw him a few months ago and said that he's still amazing.
He's somewhat self taught, and in his earliest years (early teens and even before) he would listen to classical guitar records (Andres Segovia, et al) and then just tried to figure out the fingering on his own. That's genius.
On a similar, but unrelated note (is there such a thing, or am I just making it up?), a woman I once dated and I went to an exhibition of works by Claude Monet, an impressionist painter who is famous for his paintings of water lilies, hay stacks, etc. While we declined the headphone audio tour, we did stop to read each plaque. I distinctly remember one of them which had a quote from Monet himself, in which he stated that he never painted a water lily, haystack, barn, sun, or cloud. He just looked at a point in space and painted the light that he saw there. The light. Not the object. To me, this was a totally stunning and radical way of looking at the world, even if only from an artistic perspective. My date laughed at my amazement, but to this day I still maintain that it's a rare, unique, and enlightening way of looking at the world.
Again, that's genius.

It's been 13 years since my favorite band released an album. They just made the first song available to stream. I'm psyched. The album was released today. I was going to download it, then listen in my SUV during lunch. I walked out to the parking lot with a big smile of anticipation on my face, but then realized I had rode my bike to work. D'oh!!! And I find it extremely rude that my co-workers are talking while I'm trying to listen to the album at my desk.

Here's one for ya.
A singing Swedish trumpet player and tap dancer covering Abba's Dancing Queen
Or if that doesn't turn your crank, here are The Suffers. A soul band covering Garth Brook's Friends in Low Places.

Neil Young covers the Beatles' A Day in the Life. Donning his electric/chaotic/feedback/distortion/destroyer/xylophone persona, he demolishes it, full force. At 5:25 he goes starts to go completely off the rails.
Hey, Friday's almost here.

This remix of Oh! Darling is awesome. The backing vocals are clear and McCarntey's voice seems to have much more emotic urgency.

What do Blondie and Gucci have in common? They love new garage punk band Surfbort with Dani Miller fronting on vocals. Like much of their work, it starts slow before going pretty sonic but (warning) they get loose with some f bombs .. A little self-help snippet (ok not really).. New punk rock queen of NYC for the raspy voiced lead singer has been bandied about...
