RIP João Gilberto. Dead at 88yo, one of the founders of Bossa Nova.

Check out Killer (1971) if you get a chance. I have that on vinyl & CD too! Killer is a close second to Love it to Death for me. Alice was one of my favorites in high school. I have Pretties for You up to Flush the Fashion.

Joni simply inhabits this song in this version. CSN version is great but she outshines them.

Not to hijack the topic, but I was hopping around YouTube listening to Bossa Nova and ran across this...

Have any of you heard about the raid on Area 51 scheduled for September. The meme has gone viral and millions of idiots have "committed" to doing the raid. Just look it up. Musician Lil Nas X made a video about it. It's animated and funny.

I will readily admit that I don't get jazz. I've tried over the decades, but failed. My brain just isn't wired in a way that allows me to "get it". My loss. Oh well.
But back in what I believe was the mid-70s, I stumbled across Weather Report's Mysterious Traveler album - yes, 33 1/3 rpm. I bought it for the cool album cover, a strategy which yielded a surprisingly high success rate over the years.
As some of you may know, Weather Report has been a who's who roster of jazz luminaries. Even I recognize their names, even if I don't know what instrument they play. Wayne Shorter. Jaco Pastorius. Joseph Zawinul. Steve Gadd.
Despite my lack of resonance with the jazz milieu, the first track from the Mysterious Traveler album , Nubian Sundance, has always pulled on me. Today, for reasons not germane to this thread, I ran across this live symphonic version. I hope you enjoy it.
I've always loved that little oboe bit. And the baritone horn (tuba?) that rises above the fray now and then.

Nice. I like it. I could do without the background psychedelic light show, but would probably have liked it a few decades ago. I'll raise you a hurdy gurdy, mandolin, and two voices at Evermore. On the other hand, simple is good.

I will readily admit that I don't get jazz. Jazz is just blues with all the soul sucked out......

... I'll raise you a hurdy gurdy, mandolin, and two voices at Evermore... If doing Zeppelin covers, I’ll raise Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart with Jason Bonham on drums (son of the late Zeppelin drummer) ... plus a choir and backing strings for an Presidential awards show honoring the actual Led Zeppelin (who gave the cover a standing ovation)
