I need to note that the above photo was taken by my spouse. On studying it, I realize that it is a picture of me

Beautiful, breathtaking photos - and such contrasts....hard, sculptured surfaces, some with a myriad of colors, vs. soft, frothy water and trees. Truly stunning.
I always come here to view the photos after visiting other forums. Whatever else I've done online is dwarfed by the magnificence and grandeur of the photos that people post here. this site and the photos are therapeutic and healing.
The photos of Kings Canyon is almost other-worldly.
And I never knew Death Valley could be so beautiful. It's a geological wonder.

And I never knew Death Valley could be so beautiful. It's a geological wonder. The desert is an amazing and beautiful place. I didn't know that until my husband began sharing it with me after we were married. But I fell in love fast (with the desert. Well, with him, too, but that's a different story), and now need my "desert fixes" as much as I need my "alpine fixes." Of course, spring when the flowers bloom is the most amazing time in the desert, but even in high summer we've visited some of those places and found beauty. Liking geology helps

I had always thought of Death Valley as a desolate place, so inhospitable and forsaken. I'm learning through people who are familiar with it that there's another side, which can convey a sense of peace.

I had always thought of Death Valley as a desolate place, so inhospitable and forsaken. I'm learning through people who are familiar with it that there's another side, which can convey a sense of peace. There was a great quote in the visitors' center from one of the local indians, to the effect that if the early Anglo travelers through had consulted them, it would never have been named "Death Valley." You do have to know how to work with the land. Some more from Death Valley, to show it's not all about the flowers. The badlands at Zabriski Point. The stunning approach to Panamint Valley from the West (from the Owens Valley). Telescope Peak at sunset (from a campground at Furnace Creek last year). And finally, because it's about the history, too, a shot from inside one of the buildings in the ghost town of Leadfield:
