I don't think I got as much snow as Jim, but it's a 1/2 mile to a real road, so I spent some time on the tractor yesterday. Have more to do today, plus take care of the strawberries and the lettuce in the cold frame (yep, they're still alive). Then some shoveling in various places.

It's hard to tell with all the drifting (got a LOT of wind), but I think we only got about a foot here. But there's still a lot of work to do. Before the storm After the storm Two of my snow piles - they're about 6' tall This way to civilization

A place to kayak, and trees to hang from. What else could a guy ask for?

It ain't all bad, that's for sure. The pond is small (just a few acres) and very shallow - your paddle may hit the bottom in some places. But it's a short if tricky hop to the Chesapeake Bay and various rivers on the other side.
I've barely used my kayak since my knee got a tiny bit better. I'm still very much an unstable beginner in a kayak.

Wow! I cannot imagine that much snow! By the way, how well does a snow blower work in that much snow? Do you have to shovel some of it first?

I have a good snow thrower and it was of little use after the snow hit about 2 feet. With two people you could possibly break it up and then hit it with the thrower but we have 30+inches of snow in the road.

Here in Pittsburgh we lucked out: the brunt of the storm skirted us along a path just an hour's drive to the south. We got 6-7", but nothing like you. Wow!

I'd say plowing out a clogged neighborhood, or firing up a generator during a power outage is much akin to the satisfaction of a backpacking trip.

Great photos - especially the one of the kids watching. Looks like a lot of work. I have to say -- I'm not jealous, unlike Travis.

BOTE calculations suggests five tons of snow was on the driveway; this does not count the snow from the end of the driveway to the plowed lane in the street. Shoveling, and thus still not quite done.

We got just under 20 inches (DC area). On Sunday, after clearing the driveway, we went snowshoeing on the local bike path. This is where it crosses one of the major creeks in the area:
