I like their Sahara shirts.

Both the Sahara shirts and pants are pretty nice. I'd like to buy some Patagonia pants, but Patagonia only make theirs with a 33" inseam and what I want doesn't lend themselves to alterations due to the cuff design. I have shirts and jackets out the wazoo. I keep looking for something.....

My favorite all-around pants are the Prana Zion... built-in belt, and come in different inseam lengths. Like you, 33" is too long.
The "Mud" color is a perfect color for showing no, well, mud!

My original member number was 123,061, think I got it in 72 or 73. Somewhere along the way it was changed to 1,230,061. Lost my REI street cred when that happened. And yeah, weirdly it is in my memory bank. Can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday, but remember that number. That's so strange your number got changed. I don't know for sure, but I don't think REI broke 1 million members til the 80's. Like you, not sure on yesterdays lunch, but have remembered my REI number since I got it. I didn't shop REI all through the 80's, then, around 1990 I went in an REI in California to make a purchase... got to check out, the cashier asked if I was a member, and I rattled off my membership as if no time had passed.

johntpenca Peculiar error. Did they reset your “member since” date? In the REI app account info (or in the physical card iirc) the “since” date is right under my name and member number: for me 170,xxx and 1969. Because if they didn’t then you could talk to customer service and point out there’s no way a seven digit member number was issued before 1969 and get your original number back I expect. You have your old card? That’d seal the deal.

Nah, it's not worth fretting about. For a while it was some source of pride I had an early number, seems pretty insignificant now.

Sad thing is I'm sitting on $200 in gift cards and they have nothing I want. I've searched their website for anything to spend it on; nothing. Buy snacks. They sell some pretty high end ones.....

Yeah, there’s always food. And I can always use another hiking shirt... I can send you my size and color preferences :D. If they carry your favored hiking boots/shoes, get a spare pair whether you need it or not. You’ll need it eventually. Bike parts: tubes, tires, etc. Those things are danged expensive. (Wheels are worse. Just had to send Second Son a couple hundred bucks because he bent a rim. Ouch).

Mine is from 1972 with 230### but they reset my start date as 1984? so X230061 would make sense. I would bet they hired out IT database in in 84 or 99 on membership and other historical data without regard to its origins. My own start date was a reboot. I did not deal with REI from '78-84 and popped up in Denver in 84 when they opened their first store on Colfax. I was 18 years old when I joined the Co-op and it was a year before my little town in Arizona had its first hippie backpacking outfitter. Same year I got my first MSR mimeographed newsletter and second edition of Chouinard' catalog.

When I bought my pair, they just came in generic (S, M, L, etc.) sizes with fixed lengths. Bought a pair of XXL (38" waist) that had a 37" (!) inseam. To date, the only pair of pants I've ever had to cut off to fit (usually wear a 34" inseam). "Mud" does look like a winning color. Wish they still had two cargo pockets, though.
