Who: All here are welcome! Where: Group car camping at Pickle Gulch in Colorado When: Sept 13-15 2019 Why: because it's great fun to see our online friends in person It's official, reservations are secured for Sept 13 - 15, 2019. Due to the several changes, we need anyone who plans to attend to make a commitment and contribute to the reservation in advance. The cost, for the campsite, is $145.00. That does not count any contribution to group food. Let's start with $15 per person, given previous attendance I think that will be enough. The reservation is in my name, on my credit card. You can send the money to my PayPal account, deborahcrane(that at sign)yahoo.com I hope to see lots of friends that weekend!! zeke please link to some PG photos. I don't have access to my computer at the moment. Thanks!

For pictures of the fun, Look here.As for pinning this thread, I decided to keep it up top for a week now, to let everyone have a better chance to see it and make their plans. After a week, I will unpin it.

Thanks Deborah! On my calendar. (I screwed this up last year and am determined not to do that again.)

2019 is almost surely not in the cards for me, but I am planning to be on sabbatical fall 2020, and would really like to make it to Pickle Gulch.

Yes. I should just go ahead and reserve a spot. Last year, I didn't go because the wife decided to opt for early retirement in February, and the switch-over from her "full salary" early retirement time extension to actual retirement started in September. I was nervous that there might be "hitches" to deal with. As it turned out, I probably could have gone: things went smoothly. (This year, she might attempt to kill me or lock me out of the house while I'm 'out of pocket', so I have somewhat different worries.)
I sent $30 just now, in case the wife wants to tag along, though she isn't the "camping sort". You can use the money either way, I'm sure.
See you there!

Maybe you could talk Mrs bigload into joining you this year. She's taking it under consideration. She has a publication deadline on 10/15 and she'll burn most of her vacation this summer in Sweden.

I am cautiously optimistic now that the dates were changed. Almost all plans for last year were dashed with all kinds of emergencies. Hopefully this year will mellow out.

I was never in, but Pickle is piquing my interest. Doubtful I'll go, but it doesn't hurt to ask a couple questions: Is the group at the campground all 3 nights (Sep 13, 14, 15)? Is it used as a basecamp for hikes during the day? This flatlander from Chicago would have to spend some time getting acclimated to a campground ~9000 feet with hiking higher than that. I would take the whole week off, starting with some lower elevation hiking & camping. I have some vacation time to burn, as my shoulder injury has put the kibosh on playing in senior softball tournaments this summer. I might have surgery in October, followed by 6 months of recovery. I want to do some hiking first but I'm no fan of Midwest or Southeast heat & bugs, so higher is better.
